Micro-electrolytic method, also known as internal electrolysis, is an ideal technology used for treatment of hardly degradable organic wastewater in high concentration and can self-generates 1.2-volt potential difference to make electrolytic sewage treatment without external power supply, to achieve the purpose of degradation of organic pollution. When the water flows though the system , numerous micro-cell systems are formed within the device, constituting the magnetic field that generate potential difference. Iron in acidic condition can release iron ions that generate Fe2+ formed in-situ which will have oxidation-reduction reaction with many of the components of the wastewater, as ⑴ Hexavalent chromium is chemically reduced to trivalent chromium; ⑵ Mercury ion is chemically reduced to elemental mercury; (3) Nitro group is chemically reduced to amino group; ⑷ Chromophore or auxochrome groups are oxidized or reduced to play an important role in degradation and decolorization of dyeing wastewater, thus improves the biodegradability of wastewater. After adding alkali into the water to adjust the PH value, Fe2+ may be oxidized to Fe3+ that is a good flocculant, and the hydrate of which has a strong ability of adsorption and flocculation. Fe3+ may further generate Ferrous hydroxide and Ferric Hydroxide colloid flocculant, whose adsorption capacity is much higher than those obtained by hydrolysis with application of chemical flocculant. The suspended solids, toxic metal ions and molecules dispersed in water pollution, can be significantly adsorbed, flocculated and sedimented.
